SENNALPEN IN THE ALLGÄU
Omnipresent. In the Allgäu. The tinkling of bells and chimes worn by the cows on elaborately decorated leather straps around their necks. 33,000 head of cattle live on our alpine pastures in the Allgäu Alps during the summer. These cows provide the milk. For the famous Allgäu mountain cheese, which is painstakingly produced by the alpine herders in small alpine dairies. It is the alpine herbs of the mountain meadows that give the cow’s milk—and thus the cheese—its unique and unmistakable spicy aroma. A visit to one of the alpine pastures in the Allgäu reveals just how much hard work goes into it.
