AKTIV HOTEL AWARD 2026
AWARDED BY MY TOP HOTEL
On April 17, 2026, it was time once again to say, “And the winner is…”: The travel portal MEIN TOPHOTEL presented the Aktiv Hotel Award for the eighth time. For the third time, the coveted trophies for the best active hotels in the German-speaking world were presented at FIBO in Cologne.
The world’s leading trade show for fitness, wellness, and health once again served as the platform for the presentation of the Aktiv Hotel Award by the successful travel portal.
Complemented by the Longevity Summit, FIBO once again established itself this year as one of the key gathering places for the hospitality and spa industries from April 16 to 19, 2026.
On Friday, April 17, the spotlight was on the national hotel industry. Presentations and expert panel discussions provided exclusive insights into the various sectors of the industry. The festivities began at 12:00 p.m. at the Meeting Point Spa & Wellness with the presentation of the Aktiv Hotel Award by Mein Tophotel. This award honors hotels whose sports concepts are exceptional and clearly set them apart from the competition.
The industry-relevant award is based on the travel portal MEIN TOPHOTEL, which exclusively features top destinations in various categories, such as wellness, family, and active travel. The award ceremony was hosted by Jaqueline Schaffrath, Head of Mein Tophotel, together with editor Sarah Leoni.

The winners were presented with a trophy crafted especially for this occasion by Mein Tophotel. “We congratulate this year’s winners on their first-class expertise in active vacations,” said Jacqueline Schaffrath, Head of Mein Tophotel.

CONNOISSEUR CIRCLE AWARD 2025
THE BEST HOTELS OF 2025 HAVE BEEN CHOSEN!
"Germany is back in the fast lane! While Europe’s economic powerhouse may still be catching its breath in other sectors before making its next leap forward, great strides have been made in the tourism sector in recent years. Germany has not only defended its position as the “world champion of travel” when it comes to exploring the world. Above all, the path to success is visible and measurable within Germany itself—particularly in the growth of visitor numbers, overnight stays, and ancillary services. The luxury segment, in particular, is showing unprecedented growth. Once notorious for its lack of service, the destination now attracts the elite and cosmopolitans from all over the world, seamlessly and naturally blending tradition and modernity: the internationally well-marketed Oktoberfest in Munich; small, exquisite cultural events in the provinces; the vibrancy of Cologne, Berlin, or Hamburg; and the rugged, genuine hospitality in the far north and along the Baltic Sea are playing an increasingly important role in Europe when it comes to maximum relaxation and a healthy value for money.
That is exactly where this year’s Connoisseur Circle rating for the “Best Hotels 2025” comes in.
What expert can truly claim to have put every hotel in a country through its paces? A more insightful approach involves combining objective data with subjective impressions and experiences. That’s precisely why Connoisseur Circle, for its “Best Hotels in Germany” feature, has provided our readers with a basis for decision-making from the very start of the voting process and draws on the results of the world’s leading “satisfaction meter”: TrustYou www.trustyou.com
Based on test criteria specified by Connoisseur Circle—such as the highest quality of service—the editorial team, together with the digital experts at TrustYou, compiles a dataset that serves as the basis for the final selection. This is where the second factor comes into play: subjective market knowledge and in-depth personal experience. During a testing and evaluation phase lasting several weeks, Connoisseur readers and users were invited to participate in the voting. A specially developed rating format enabled more than 193,000 participants to enter their own personal impressions of each of the nominated establishments into the system, based on the TrustYou findings. Only the top three establishments—ranked 1 through 3—are designated as top winners. All other establishments in each tested category are equal group winners. After all, that is the editorial team’s goal: to find the right establishment for every individual’s personal taste.
We congratulate all the winners!"

CONNOISSEUR CIRCLE AWARD 2024

" HUBERTUS MOUNTAIN REFUGIO IN THE ALLGÄU

And with Kilian and Lenia, the next—fourth—generation of the Traubels is already in the starting blocks."

The HUBERTUS also did well in the "Hotels for Active Travelers" category, taking 2nd place!

Wellness Aphrodite 2022
"And the winner is …" was the announcement on May 4, 2022, at the Wellness Aphrodite 2022 awards ceremony: For the 19th time, Freizeit Verlag honored the best wellness hotels in the German-speaking world based on data from the travel portal meintophotel.de and the hotel guide "Mein Tophotel Wellness 2022." This year’s winner in the Overall Concept category was the HUBERTUS Mountain Refugio Allgäu in Balderschwang (Germany).
Freizeit Verlag presented the Wellness Aphrodite 2022 awards in eight categories: Wellness Cuisine, Fitness & Sports, Beauty & Treatments, Spa Design, Accommodations, Spa Personality, Overall Concept, and Tradition & Vision. The expert jury consisted of TV chef Christian Henze; Anke Brendt, project manager at FIBO Cologne; Professor Dr. Marco Gardini, of the Bavarian Center for Tourism and professor of International Hospitality Management and Marketing at the Faculty of Tourism at Kempten University of Applied Sciences; and publishing director Jan Peter Kruse, editor-in-chief of the trade magazines Tophotel and Hotel+Technik; Marco Weiß and Jacqueline Schaffrath, director of Hotelguides Meintophotel. From three nominated hotels in each category, the winners were selected during a jury session marked by lively debate.
The jury honored the outstanding overall concept of the HUBERTUS Mountain Refugio Allgäu in Balderschwang (Germany) with the Wellness Aphrodite 2022 award. The property’s HolisticLife concept revolves around mindfulness, nature, and the essence of life. The meditation, yoga, and mindfulness programs led by host Christa Traubel and her team are designed to help guests rethink old patterns of living. Holistic Touch refers to massages and treatments based on ancient Ayurvedic knowledge, which are inextricably linked to proper nutrition—Holistic Food. The focus is on recognizing that nutrition fundamentally influences our lives on both a physical and mental level. The new Mountain Spring Spa, with its stylish ambiance, blends Far Eastern influences with the Allgäu region. In addition to the panoramic infinity pool, a beautiful natural swimming lake, the spacious sauna area, and ten stylish treatment rooms, there is also a Japanese onsen pool and a Zen garden. Here, guests enjoy wellness experiences that leave a lasting impression and inspire a zest for life. The Traubel family, the spa’s hosts, accepted the Wellness Aphrodite award to thunderous applause.

German Brand Award 2018
On June 21, 2018, the winners of the German Brand Award were honored for the third time at a festive gala held at the German Historical Museum in Berlin. More than 600 invited guests from the worlds of business, culture, and media accepted the exclusive invitation.
Among the evening’s winners was the HUBERTUS Alpin Lodge & Spa. The company was awarded a German Brand Award in Gold in the “Brand Creation – Print” category for the development of its new “Leabig” magazine.
“The ‘Leabig’ magazine is a superbly produced, visually stunning publication that passionately and authentically reinforces the HUBERTUS Hotel’s brand philosophy, both in form and content,” the jury stated in its rationale.

Its content and design elements blend seamlessly to embody the HUBERTUS concept: back to the roots. “Leabig”—alive. Elaborately photographed, illustrated, and designed, the magazine embodies this sustainable concept in its feel and craftsmanship, featuring uncoated paper and a Swiss-style softcover with an open, colored binding.
Through the German Brand Award, the German Design Council and the German Brand Institute recognize successful brands, consistent brand management, and sustainable brand communication.

Its group of founding members currently includes more than 300 companies. The German Design Council was founded in 1953 on the initiative of the German Bundestag to strengthen the design expertise of the German economy. Its wide-ranging activities pursue a single goal: to communicate the sustainable enhancement of brand value through the strategic use of design.
