LEASH REQUIREMENT FOR DOGS

In Balderschwang, all dogs must be kept on a leash. Please be aware that dogs running loose can trigger flight responses in wild animals. This wastes energy, causes stress, and puts the fleeing animals in danger. Grazing livestock also often feels provoked by dogs. To avoid unpleasant encounters and protect Mother Nature, we urge you to comply with the leash law.

Hiking with Your Dog

HIKING

Be sure to bring enough food and water for yourself and your dog on your hikes. A first-aid kit, tweezers, and tick tweezers should also be part of your hiking gear.

DOG POOP

Please be sure to pick up your dog’s waste using the designated waste bags. Dog waste can cause infections in cattle and your calves. Thank you very much for your cooperation!

Vacation in the Mountains with Your Dog

When People and Dogs Can Slow Down in the Allgäu Alps

That first breath up in Balderschwang feels different. Clearer. More expansive. Quieter. Anyone looking for a hotel for a mountain vacation with their dog is often looking for more than just a room where dogs are allowed. It’s about finding a place that’s right for both of you: for the person who needs some space, and for the dog who needs nature, new smells, exercise, and peace and quiet.

At the HUBERTUS Mountain Refugio Allgäu, this time together doesn’t begin on the hiking trail. It begins with the location. With an unobstructed view of the mountains. With direct access to nature. With a pace that isn’t rushed. Your dog is right there with you as you focus on what’s often neglected in everyday life: warmth. Silence. Good food. Spa time. And the feeling of not constantly having to be somewhere.

How does a dog-friendly vacation in the mountains differ from a traditional countryside vacation with a dog?

A mountain vacation requires greater consideration of the terrain, weather, wildlife, grazing livestock, and leash requirements. At the same time, it offers closer contact with alpine nature and a greater balance between activity and relaxation.

Why is a hotel with a spa a particularly good choice after hiking trips with your dog?

After an active day outdoors, a spa hotel offers a place for relaxation, warmth, and tranquility. At the HUBERTUS, the wellness area is a central part of the stay and perfectly complements the mountain setting.

Why is the HUBERTUS a great starting point for a vacation with your dog in Bavaria?

The HUBERTUS is located in the Allgäu Alps, combining access to nature with high-quality relaxation and providing clear information for guests traveling with dogs. This makes for a mountain vacation that’s easy to plan, complete with hotel amenities.

Why is Balderschwang in the Allgäu a great place for a mountain vacation with your dog?

Balderschwang is ideal for guests traveling with their dogs who are looking for a quiet mountain region, access to nature, and well-marked hiking trails. Its location in the Allgäu Alps combines fresh mountain air, nearby trails, and a relaxed vacation atmosphere.

Is it easier to plan a hotel vacation with a dog in the mountains than a vacation rental?

A hotel vacation can be easier to plan for guests traveling with dogs if services, dining, spa facilities, and clear rules are important to them. At HUBERTUS, this is complemented by the fact that bringing your dog along is combined with a high-quality range of recreational activities.

Is there a leash law for dogs in Balderschwang?

Yes. In Balderschwang, all dogs must be kept on a leash. This protects wildlife and grazing livestock and ensures more relaxed encounters on trails and in nature.

Why is it especially important to keep dogs on a leash in a mountainous region?

Dogs running free can startle wildlife and provoke grazing animals. Especially in alpine environments, a leash helps protect nature, animals, and other visitors.

Can I use the ski lifts in the Balderschwang region with my dog?

Yes, some mountain railways in the area allow dogs on board, with rules varying depending on the railway. Some allow dogs, while others require them to be on a leash or to wear a muzzle and be on a leash.

Are dogs allowed on public buses in the Balderschwang area?

Dogs may only be brought on public buses if they are wearing a muzzle and on a leash. Dogs are not automatically included in free rides under the AllgäuWalserPass program and may require their own ticket.

For which guests is a vacation with a dog in the Bavarian mountains particularly suitable?

This type of trip is ideal for guests who enjoy nature, physical activity, tranquility, and a clear daily routine. Those looking to combine hiking trails, relaxation, and wellness will find the perfect setting in the Allgäu.

Is a mountain vacation with a dog a good option even for guests who aren't very athletic?

Yes. At the HUBERTUS, you can easily combine nature, short walks, and relaxation at the hotel.

A Mountain Hotel Where Dogs Are Welcome—When the Setting Is More Than Just a Backdrop

Balderschwang offers space. The HUBERTUS provides a peaceful setting for it.

A hotel in the mountains that welcomes dogs has to offer more than just allowing dogs. It has to make the trip easier. Those first steps outside the door. The daily rhythm. The balance between activity and relaxation. That’s exactly where Balderschwang’s strength lies: The town is nestled in the Allgäu Alps—quiet, high up, and close to nature. Not on a busy thoroughfare. Not caught between shopping streets and the hunt for parking. But right where mountain air and wide-open spaces set the tone.

For guests traveling with dogs, this is more than just a nice touch. It transforms the entire stay. A short walk in the morning before the day begins. Later, a stroll through nature. Then back to the hotel. Take off your shoes. Let your dog unwind. Maybe the spa. Maybe the terrace. Maybe just sit and not have to fill your view with anything else right away.

The HUBERTUS doesn’t see itself as a traditional dog-friendly hotel with a full program and a bustling atmosphere. It’s a mountain refugio. A retreat. For people who travel mindfully. For couples with dogs. For solo travelers who don’t want to explain why they need peace and quiet. For guests who head to the mountains with their dog but don’t feel the need to conquer a new peak every day.

Here, the mountains aren’t a promise of achievement. They’re a counterpart. You see them. You venture into them. You return. And inside the house, there’s no noisy “vacation vibe”—just a clear contrast: nature outside, warmth inside. Activity in the morning, relaxation in the afternoon. Dinner as a peaceful conclusion. Not just “dogs are allowed here,” but a stay where both dog and owner find their place.

Especially on a mountain vacation with a dog, it’s often the balance that matters. Is there enough closeness to nature without having to plan every walk? Does the hotel feel upscale without being stuffy? Is there enough privacy when the dog wants to sleep after a walk? At HUBERTUS, these elements come together seamlessly. Architecture, wood, glass, mountain views, spa, cuisine. Everything is kept simple. Deliberately so. Without any flashy showmanship.

The result is a vacation that doesn’t feel like a compromise. Your dog gets to experience the mountain wilderness, the scents, the trails, and moments of rest. You get time to yourself. And the two aren’t mutually exclusive.

Vacation with Your Dog in Bavaria

Bavaria is big. Very big. If you're looking for a vacation with your dog in Bavaria, you'll quickly find plenty of options:

Lakes, cities, vacation rentals, family-friendly hotels, hiking destinations, traditional wellness resorts. But not every vacation in Bavaria feels the same. And not every destination is a good fit for what dog owners are really looking for when they want to combine peace and quiet, nature, and quality.

Balderschwang is a different kind of choice. Smaller. More alpine. More low-key. The town is located in the Allgäu, but not in the part where tourism is pushing its way to the forefront. The landscape feels open, clear, and unspoiled. For dogs and people alike, that means: fewer distractions. More space. A vacation that isn’t all about constant planning, but rather about simple transitions. Getting outside. Breathe. Come back. Rest.

The HUBERTUS embraces this setting and translates it into a high-quality stay. Not as a classic Bavarian backdrop. Not as a rustic vacation scene. But as a thoughtfully designed mountain retreat. Wood, glass, light, clean lines. Plus a spa that’s not just an add-on, but the heart of the house. Anyone who travels with a dog knows the balance: the day should be tailored to the pet, but the owner shouldn’t just be a companion. This hotel is perfectly suited for exactly that.

If a Bavarian vacation with a dog isn’t supposed to be loud, crowded, and traditional, you need a hotel with character. Not a place where everything happens at once. But a setting that slows things down. At HUBERTUS, that means: morning exercise while the mountain air is still cool. Perhaps a quiet retreat at noon. In the afternoon, warmth, water, a sauna, and tranquility. In the evening, a menu that’s thoughtfully and creatively designed without feeling heavy.

This trip is particularly well-suited for couples with a dog who are looking to spend time together but don’t want to stay at a typical family hotel. For solo travelers who long for silence and have their dog along as a trusted companion. For wellness guests who don’t want to leave their dog behind. For nature lovers who find a vacation rental lacks a sense of hospitality and a large resort hotel is too hectic.

The difference isn’t in any single detail. It lies in the interplay. Balderschwang provides the mountain setting. The HUBERTUS provides the tranquility, the spa, the cuisine, and the rhythm. This transforms the search query “vacation with a dog in Bavaria” into a concrete decision: not just anywhere in Bavaria, but in the Allgäu Alps—where the days can unfold at a gentler pace.
