The Third Act of Life - Planning for Retirement with Regina von Einsiedel and Michaela Seul
In most other major stages of life, society steps in: preschool, school, vocational training, college, marriage, raising children. When we retire from the workforce, we’re left to our own devices. But that shouldn’t be a problem, because of course we know what to do with our time.
But what if there are still gaps? After all, superficial self-improvement tips on how to fill those gaps don’t help. Our psyche can’t be fobbed off with just anything. Dr. Regina von Einsiedel and Michaela Seul know this. As a writing duo, they authored the book *Die dritte Lebenshälfte* (The Third Half of Life), published by Patmos Verlag.

Any major transition—especially when you’ve been accustomed to a certain structure for decades—poses a significant challenge. As a result, someone might find themselves sorely missing the very job they thought they’d be overjoyed to see finally come to an end. Factors that have shaped their lives for decades simply vanish into thin air. You realize that even a supposedly unloved activity fulfilled important functions and continuously fed our reward system with dopamine.
Baby boomers are high achievers; they grew up with these values in a society where work came first and pleasure second. That doesn’t change overnight; it’s a process you can embrace—or you can expect, even here: performance. And then perhaps you’ll fail.
So how can this transition succeed… not just at HUBERTUS, but also in everyday life? The individual values and goals established in early childhood must absolutely be taken into account when making decisions about how to shape one’s retirement. You can’t tinker in a hobby room if you’re wired for adventure. So the all-important question is: Do your own expectations align with your inner values?
… We’ll explore that and much more in this interactive workshop. You’ll also learn everything you need to know for your journey to the planet of retirement, as well as the common pitfalls you should be able to spot early on. You’ll learn techniques for a smooth landing and how to successfully settle into this new phase of your life.
