After all, the higher you go into the mountains, the lower the pollen count! Allergy sufferers don’t have to climb a 4,000-meter peak right away—even at an altitude of just 1,000 meters, pollen levels are reduced enough that they can breathe more freely—as is the case here in Balderschwang, at 1,044 meters above sea level. What’s more, the air here in our high Allgäu valley is extremely clean, and the amount of air pollutants is significantly lower.

People with allergies who are sensitive to dust mites also find it easier in the mountains. Since mites prefer a balanced, humid climate—such as that found by the sea—the drier air in the mountains does not provide them with a suitable habitat . For this reason, we have equipped all rooms with Dr. Metz Prima-Klima eco-friendly down comforters.

At altitudes of 1,000 meters and above, humidity in the Alps remains consistently below 50%. The lower levels of mold in the mountain air are also beneficial for people with asthma and allergies. In lowland areas, however, the effects of allergens are often significantly more pronounced.
