Hiking Tips in the Allgäu

MY SPRING HIKING TIP

NOW THAT WINTER IS OVER, THE ALPINE HUTS AND MOUNTAIN INNS ARE GRADUALLY REOPENING.

The hike to Schönebach is a wonderful spring hike. For me, it’s a must for every hiking-loving Hubertus guest. A hike for body, mind, and soul.

It’s no coincidence that UNESCO has designated this corner of the world as an Intangible Cultural Heritage site for its traditional mountain farming practices.
You should plan on spending about 4 hours on this hike. Of course, that doesn’t include the stop you absolutely must make at Gasthof Egender.
It’s world-famous for the Käsknöpfle served there. I especially like to send our guests there when the weather isn’t so stable,
because the hike takes place almost entirely in the valley floor, making this tour also excellent for couples who have plenty to talk about. We’d be happy to reserve a table for you at the inn, as this hike is extremely popular starting from the Brgenzerwald.

1. You’ll start in Sibratsgfäll at the small parking lot by the Krähenberg lift station. From there, the trail leads slightly uphill, past the Marienkapelle, through a wonderfully shady mountain forest.

2. Right now, when there’s still snow on the Gottesacker in the high mountains, you can feel the power of the water at the Subersach Waterfall. From there, the trail continues slightly uphill to Hengstig.

3. After your break, be sure to take the loop trail. As you pass the entrance to the Schneckenloch Cave (access only with a guide), you’ll see a new view of Mother Earth and the plants that grow there at every fork in the trail.

I hope you all have a wonderful summer of mountain hiking.
Yours, Karl
