The HUBERTUS is a hotel whose history is built on its
generations . It was founded in 1950 by Walli and Karl Traubel Sr. Initially, it was a butcher shop that also offered lodging. However, this quickly changed: the number of overnight stays increased. The workload grew steadily. And early on, their sons Karl Jr. and Walter had to pitch in as well. Their clear intention was to eventually take over the HUBERTUS and carry on the business once their parents could no longer manage it.

With their father’s untimely death, that moment came sooner than expected. The HUBERTUS became the Alpine Wellnesshotel Allgäu. With the term “wellness,” it set the trend in the Allgäu region. And the Alpine Wellness Hotel Hubertus became the HUBERTUS Alpin Lodge & Spa.
This was the moment when the third generation found its way back home to support the family and continue building the hotel together:
That was me, Marc, along with my wife Sabrina. Now with our two children, Kilian and Lenia. For them, the HUBERTUS is home. A home that, with all the different people they meet and its many hidden nooks and crannies, is almost like an adventure playground.

We are a family-run business in every sense of the word. Right from the start. That’s why the word “family” means everything to us. We know that we’re only strong when we’re together. That we can trust one another. And that we all pull together. It’s only thanks to our strong sense of unity that we’ve managed, over the decades, to get HUBERTUS to where it is today.

The answer to a question we’re often asked by some of our guests is just as clear:
Why we’re not actually an “adults-only” hotel.
We love children. Children are the foundation of our lives. Of our future. Because without children, there would be no future. For any of us.

The HUBERTUS is certainly a hotel that—especially now, with the addition of the new Mountain Spring Spa—places an even greater emphasis on retreat, relaxation, rejuvenation, and tranquility. At the same time, nature itself—simply because of our location—is at the center of our lives. And it’s also the largest and most beautiful playground for children that one can imagine. Of course, this is also appreciated by parents who live with their children in cities where, understandably, contact with nature tends to be rather limited.
We find it fascinating to observe the growth of this target group, as we do not market to this segment in any way. However, it reinforces our vision to design a completely separate Family Lodge during our upcoming construction phase—so that all target groups can enjoy their vacations to the fullest.

Our current experience with both target groups shows that, especially during vacation periods, there is a clash of differing interests: those seeking peace and quiet versus those of families with children. Particularly during the cold season—specifically the Christmas and Carnival breaks—these two almost diametrically opposed groups come into particularly close contact, since, unlike in the summer, guests cannot spend most of their time outdoors.

Accordingly, we try to guide and direct the flow of guests to some extent, so that everyone can enjoy the vacation they desire.

At the Mountain Spring Spa, we have deliberately created areas where children are not permitted. These include the area around the Japanese onsen, the Alpine Zen garden, and the Cocon and Papilio relaxation rooms on the top floor. Use of the entire sauna area by children is also restricted. And starting at 6:00 p.m., our infinity pool is reserved exclusively for adults.

Of course, it’s impossible to completely avoid children running around the house. There will always be moments and times when you run into them.
But we can offer a few tips for those seeking peace and quiet on how to best avoid these interactions:

Avoid holiday seasons:
Experience has shown that the holiday seasons mentioned above—Christmas, New Year’s, and Carnival—are always popular times for families with children to book. If possible, we recommend arriving a week before or after these periods, as you can be fairly certain to find a hotel that’s almost “child-free” during those times.

Mountain Spring Spa:
In our experience, the hours from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. are the perfect time to swim laps in peace in the pool or the natural swimming pond. The relaxation rooms are also virtually empty during this time. The same applies to the period starting at 6 p.m.

Meal times:
Here’s a tip from us: Just arrive a little later for dinner, since families usually eat right at 6 p.m. so the kids can go to bed afterward. You’ll definitely find it a bit quieter and less hectic after 8 p.m.
