Hiking Tips in the Allgäu by Karl Traubel

"Summit Climbers" Mountain Adventure

in the Nagelfluh Nature Park

“Where are we going today…?” or “Oh, we were there last week with Wolfgang…!” or “Those mountains we can see over there—can you actually climb them…?”

We hear these and similar questions all the time. That’s why we’ve decided to offer a “GIPFELSTÜRMER” tour every week as part of our activity program.

Up there, where you won’t see a soul for hours. Or out and about on the highlight trails in the Allgäu. Every now and then with the help of a convenient lift, such as the mountain railways around Balderschwang, toward Oberstdorf, the Hörnerbahnen, or the railways in the Bregenzerwald.

Today, I’d like to introduce you to one of these dream tours for summit conquerors.

Hiking Vacation in the Allgäu - Hotel HUBERTUS Mountain Refugio

Summit Tour from the Hochgrat to the HUBERTUS
We’ll take our little bus to Steibis and from there ride the Hochgratbahn up to the Hochgrat. I love this little old train, which has been around for over 50 years. The ride up is extremely peaceful; we have time to “Luaga”—which means “to look around”—since the train moves so slowly that we have plenty of time to take in the scenery.

Once at the top, we’ll climb the Hochgrat. At 1,834 meters, it’s the highest peak in the Nagelfluh Nature Park. We’ll make our way across to the neighboring summit, the Rindalphorn, on a challenging hike. Afterward, we’ll descend toward Alpe Scheidwang, stopping along the way to satisfy our hunger and thirst, because now we’re heading up toward the Siplinger Kopf. Here we enjoy the magnificent view of the Allgäu’s main range: the Silvretta, Schesaplana, and Säntis. From there, we head back to the HUBERTUS, where, right in front of the house, the old wooden well awaits us—a place where we can cool off our aching legs with a refreshing splash of water while enjoying a refreshing Allgäu beer or two.

I'd love for you to join us!
Your Karl
