The story begins with the FATHER: Karl Traubel Sr. and his decision to move with his family from Munich to the Allgäu region to make his DREAM of running his own restaurant a reality.

He didn’t make it easy on himself.
Because he chose an ENCLAVE. Balderschwang. 1,044 meters above sea level. Isolated and cut off. And in 1951, infinitely far from the rest of the world. A place of exile—for teachers and pastors.
No mountain pass, no road, no convenient connection to the valley. Surrounded only by mountains. Above, the sky.
Karl Traubel Sr. envisions a future.

"Just five years up here," he promises his wife. But things turn out differently. Because the HUBERTUS is captivating—right from the start.
Guests and hosts alike. The Traubels invest.
Every mark, every minute, every breath. Not to mention their heart and soul. Those five years turn into a lifetime.
And the effort is worth it.

Winter guests who come to the HUBERTUS exclusively on their own skis keep coming back. And more and more are coming. That’s because the new mountain pass attracts day-trippers—and the SOMMERFRISCHLER guest rooms. The HUBERTUS is growing. And life is flourishing.

Karl Jr. is 26, and Walter is four years younger when their father dies. Both are trained chefs and butchers, just like their father. The decision is made. Karl quits his job at the 5-star hotel in Arosa and returns home much sooner than planned. The SECOND GENERATION begins. And with it, a new direction. Bus tours become the main source of business.

And then, at the end of the 20th century: WELLNESS.
Paving the way to the FUTURE. At first, there’s no sense of well-being—especially among bank advisors. No understanding, no loans. But then: a shaky vision, an idea, turns into a concept. And concrete numbers provide the key to success.

For nearly 30 years, the HUBERTUS has been known for its high-quality and unique wellness and relaxation treatments.
And not just in the Allgäu region.
